Leadership
- Full story |
Multicultural BusinessNobody’s PerfectNo one always gets everything right when dealing with complex interactions across countries and cultures. That being said, the greater the effort shown in preparing for cross-cultural meetings and management sessions, the greater the chance that teams will work effectively together and that team members will feel respected and valued. ... On Patience and Listening Skills Just because people look the same doesn’t mean they are the same. In some societies, personal characteristics dominate and people can ‘be themselves’. In others, societal norms dominate and people tend look quietly for like-minded friends and colleagues. Only by listening attentively and asking gentle but well-thought-out questions can you begin to get beneath the cultural overlay with colleagues at home and abroad. Be patient, and don’t try to achieve too much too soon. In your assignment, you may be part of the new brush that sweeps clean certain management elements from an earlier regime, but the way you go about it will be what pays off in the longer term and help you win over loyal and trusted colleagues.
