Multicultural BusinessCulture Clash, Part IIWhen the clash of cultures costs time Soon after the merger, the Dutch banking team visited their new Portuguese affiliate to check that new procedures were being followed. The social programme began with a ‘late’ dinner at 9:30 p.m. by which time the visitors were clearly ready for bed. On the following day, the lack of a clear agenda and waiting times of up to an hour to meet senior politicians who had supported the recent merger led to an atmosphere of frustration amongst the visitors. They had been led to believe that a tightly organized schedule of meetings and appointments awaited them. Their final report questioned the professionalism of the new affiliate team and resulted in further time-consuming visits to try and iron out the situation. Back to overview Next Previous |
