What's wrong with strategy implementation today?
Why doesn't strategy implementation work out every time?According to Lawrence G. Hrebiniak of Wharton, there are four major obstacles:
- Managers are trained to plan, not implement
- Some top executives do not see themselves as being responsible for the implementation of the strategies they formulate
- Strategy implementation happens over a much longer time frame than strategy formulation
- Strategy implementation involves more people than does strategy formulation.
All four of these problems mentioned are people-related issues, and these people-related issues are mainly about one thing, 'alignment'.
