Many pharma companies have divisions that specialize in different aspects of diagnostics and MedTech, or are looking at becoming active in one or more of these areas: Medical gas, blood collection and transfusion, renal dialysis, pacemakers, stents, neurotransmitters, insulin pumps, orthopaedic implants, medical optics, regenerative medicine, molecular diagnostics, medical imaging (esp. contrasting agents), and laboratory automation, products and other activities.

Medical technology, while related to pharma, is quite different. It has its own set of issues and necessary competencies. MCE has created a separate practice focusing only on medical technology.
